Matthew is described as small and wiry. He has red-brown hair, a crescent-shaped white scar next to his left eyebrow, and a web of more scars twisting down his left arm. He wears a short-sleeved avocado-colored t-shirt.[1]

While good-hearted, Matthew is playful and sarcastic in a joking manner.

Pre-Series[]
Matthew used to go to Camp Underpaw, but had to leave when Bryson Polo and Geoff Landers dared him to ride the camp's bonnacon, sparking fires that allowed Kiri, the camp's qilin, to escape.[2]
The Menagerie[]
Matthew first formally appears when Logan Wilde returns Squorp to the Menagerie.[3]
