Riff is a male griffin who lives in the Wyoming Menagerie. He first appeared in The Menagerie.
Appearance[]
Riff is described as giant and large, taller than Squorp [1], a few inches taller than Mr. Kahn.[2] He has a dark beak[3], black feathers and fur [4], and paws with claws that are "as long and sharp as hunting knives".[5]
Personality[]
Riff is a very excitable griffin who like to have fun, and is exhilarated when his cubs return.[6]
A warm and loving father, Riff fretted and worried almost manically when his cubs were missing, and was over the moon whenever one of them was returned, cuddling and hugging them to the point the cubs were uncomfortable. He's rather oblivious, not noticing others' discomfort, or his mate Nira's sarcasm.
But as loving of a father he is, Riff however seems to unintentionally leave most of the cubrearing to Nira, who the cubs play with more while Riff lazes about, that Logan intended to have a word with Riff regarding this.
Skills[]
Riff can communicate with others telepathically.[7]

The Menagerie[]
Riff first formally appeared when Logan and Zoe brought Squorp back. He excitedly welcomed Squorp back, telling Nira that they had found her son.[8]
